The
"North Wind" Doesn't Change
Its Direction.
The
transition The Gold ring of Russia, planned by the Club of race dogs
lovers North Wind and expeditionary center Arctic, could be cancelled
because of financial, technical and weather problems. The first two were
settled, but snowbreak, happened in the end of January, could spoil everything.
On the 25-th of January
the first day of the race it was raining. But bad weather didnt stop
sportsmen loyal to a new sport racers on sled-dogs.
To the first stage of
the race arrived racers from Serpuhov, Stupino, Moscow, Pushkino. There
were 8 teams of dogs and also skiers with a single dog. In teams there
were predominantly Husky.
The weather didnt stop
numerous fans. Representatives of the administration of Puchkinsky region
and interested organizations, journalists also came to the start of the
race.
The race was started.
But wet snow create very difficult conditions for dogs and racers. Some
teams havent reached the finish. Nevertheless, the first stage of the
race was realized.
The next day the weather
became better. It was freezing and snowing. Only Clubs North Wind teams
continue the race. They should go to the town Kalyazin on Volga. The team
of the North Wind was represented by 24 huskies and 4 racers: Pomelov
Victor, Garmanov Alexander, Onchulenko Andrey, Zuykova Olga.
The team of the North
Wind was supported by the team of the expeditionary center Arctic with
Chukov Vladimir in the head, who advanced ahead on special cross-country
car tracking the trail.
First Clubs North Wind
teams visited Volga in 2001. They realized the transition from Uglich to
Ribinsk along Volga with the support of the local Club of travelers Stratim.
Since 2001 year
the Club North Wind and the expeditionary center Arctic have planned
the project of great Russian race with participation of foreign sportsmen.
But shortage of capital
and absence of general sponsor forced to realized the project on enthusiasm
and to shorten the program.
United possibilities of
the Club North Wind and expeditionary center Arctic allowed to fulfill
the race on sled-dog in the period 25-30 January 2002 along the following
towns: Sofrino, Kalyazin, Uglich, Mishkin, Ribinsk.
There were halts, bonfires
with hot tea, passing the night on Volgas coast alfresco and sometimes
in hotels. There were non-freezing parcels of Volga, which we should bypass
on cars. We met heads of sport organizations, representatives of administrations
of towns. We visited notable places and museums.
The race happened!
